The Municipality of Lagoa makes a positive assessment of the sporting activity in the municipality, promoted or supported by the municipality in 2014, in partnership with other sports agents, stressing that it is «a program that aims above all to keep young people and non-youth active. , both in the field of training and competition or, even, maintenance».
Thus, in the last days of the year and at the beginning of 2015, the City Council supported Lagoa Atlético Clube in the II International Handball Tournament for the male and female children and youth categories, which included 16 teams from Portugal and Spain.
It was a four-day competition, which had the always motivating monitoring of international athletes trained at LAC – Soraia Lopes and Gilberto Duarte.
In Parchal, the Pavilion Prof. Manuel Ferraz was the stage for a Badminton Internship, with teams from ACD Che Lagoense and Andalusia (Spain).
At the Espamol Pavilion, in Lagoa, organized by Sporting Clube Lagoense, Futsal was the choice for a Youth Triangular Tournament.
And so, the year 2014 was closed with hundreds of young people playing sports in the various structures of the City Council, involving sports technicians, logistics and, of course, family members accompanying the athletes in competition.
But in the early days of 2015, the City Council invited all its residents to the traditional march/race on a sunny day at Sítio das Fontes. 400 marchers covered the 4,5 or 9 kilometers, depending on the option, visiting the town of Estômbar on their “tour”.
The local authority also supported KCCA in the II Diogo Lopes Trophy, in triathlon, an event that included the disciplines of Swimming (Municipal Pool), running (Quinta dos Vales) and canoeing (Rio Arade). With the participation of 100 athletes, the competition served to honor the athlete Diogo Lopes, champion of Europe and vice-champion of the world.
The awards ceremony for some activities took place in a festive atmosphere with the presence of the mayor Francisco Martins and the councilor for Sports Luís Encarnação, who made it clear that «sporting activity is a strong bet included in the program of the current municipal executive» .
