AMALPromoting safety among the foreign community that lives in the Algarve is the objective of a protocol signed this Wednesday between AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve and the association Safe Communities Algarve.

The agreement provides for increased cooperation “in crime prevention and civil protection for the resident foreign community”. Foreigners who chose the Algarve to live in already represent around 12 percent of the region's population.

In practice, this protocol provides for the carrying out of an awareness campaign, which aims to keep the population properly informed about issues of security, crime prevention or forest fires».

«It is essential that the Algarve maintains safety standards and continues to assume itself as a safe destination, with those who visit us or choose the region to live. And it is even more important to seek to reconcile synergies between the competent entities, to continue the quality of life that characterizes the Algarve and that distinguishes it as a tourist destination», considered, at the protocol signing ceremony, the president of AMAL Jorge Botelho.

The partner of the entity that brings together the 16 Algarve municipalities in this project, Safe Communities Algarve, is a non-profit institution, focused on crime prevention through the provision of support services to the foreign community residing in the region. The association works in close collaboration with various entities, including the GNR, the Judiciary Police, the SEF and the Algarve Chambers.
