Nelson Correia, the new Municipal Operational Commander of Silves, took office on the 9th of December, in a ceremony that took place in the Town Hall in that city.
The act culminated with the delivery of individual protection material to fight urban fires to the Voluntary Fire Brigade corporations of Silves and São Bartolomeu de Messines.
In total, the Municipality of Silves delivered 10 complete open circuit breathing apparatus (ARICA), in an investment that exceeded 9.000 euros, as well as other types of personal protection equipment for urban fires, such as helmets and nomex suits, characterized by its flame resistant fiber.
This equipment is part of a wider range of individual protection material to fight forest and urban fires, most of which have already been distributed during 2014 by fire brigades and which, with another 10 open circuit breathing apparatus that will be delivered by the end of the year, represent a total investment by the municipality of 67 thousand euros.
This amount is shared in 85% by the FEDER, within the scope of the “strategic re-equipment of the Civil Protection of the Algarve” application, carried out jointly between AMAL and the Algarve's municipalities.
"Supporting the municipality's Voluntary Firefighters, providing them with better personal protection equipment, thus contributing to the improvement of their performance in emergency situations" are some of the municipality's objectives with the delivery of the equipment, according to the press release from Chamber of Silves.
