Faro-view-of-Ria-Formosa_cfsThe Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (MAOTE) announced yesterday, in Faro, the feasibility of the investment of approximately 6,5 million euros foreseen for the execution of the Dredging of Ria Formosa, Requalification of the access to Praia de Faro and for the construction of the car park outside the beach.

This announcement by Minister Jorge Moreira da Silva today motivated a statement from the City Council of Faro, to congratulate themselves on the progress of the works, within the scope of the Polis Litoral Ria Formosa intervention.

Sociedade Polis Litoral has already started the implementation of the “Action Plan for the Enhancement of the Hydrodynamics of the Ria Formosa and Risk Mitigation in the Barreira Islands”, and the intervention of dredging of the channel is in the tender phase (consideration of proposals). Faro-Olhão, whose contract will be developed between March and August 2015.

Also with regard to the municipality of Faro, by the end of this month tenders will also be launched for the dredging of the Barrinha da Península do Ancão (Island of Faro) and Esteiro do Ramalhete, actions that should take place between May and September 2015. These interventions involve a total investment of 4,8 million euros in the municipality.

According to the note from the municipality, MAOTE also left the Mayor with the guarantee that Polis will start tenders for the construction works for the Outdoor Parking at Praia de Faro and Rehabilitation of Road Access to the Beach.

It is expected that these two important actions, with a global value of 1,7 million euros, will be carried out between May and December of next year, remaining for now, the contract for the bridge project.

This announcement was previously communicated to the mayor, and was made public yesterday during the start of the renaturalization work on the islets of Ramalhetes, in Ria Formosa.

This Wednesday, before Minister Jorge Moreira da Silva, the Secretary of State for the Environment and the presidents of Sociedade Polis Ria Formosa and the Chamber of Faro, the machines began to demolish a cluster of 23 buildings that served, above all, as fishing supports.

Demolitions on the barrier islands are expected to last until summer. Over the next year, second-home houses are expected to be demolished on the west and east ends of Praia de Faro (116 buildings) and in the Hangars and Farol, on the Island of Culatra.

The Chamber of Faro ends by stressing that «despite the divergence of positions regarding other options of the Polis Program, which are assumed, for this Municipality, it is necessary to recognize that the Ministry of Environment has made a remarkable effort to meet our concerns formulated several times in the course of this process'.
