seized weaponsA 46-year-old Portuguese man was arrested yesterday by the GNR as he left a commercial establishment located in Algoz (Silves), following an investigation related to the crime of domestic violence. Police forces later seized five firearms and hundreds of ammunition, some of war caliber, at his home.

When he was arrested, the man was armed, with a "revolver loaded and ready to fire", but he did not offer "resistance to action" by elements of the Nucleus for Investigation and Support for Specific Victims (NIAVE) of the Territorial Command Faro of the GNR, headquartered in Portimão.

Following the arrest, and given evidence that the man had more firearms at home, a house search was carried out in Algoz, as well as two vehicles he owned.

The NIAVE eventually seized a .22 caliber revolver, a .22 caliber pistol, a .22LR pistol, a .22 caliber carbine, with telescopic sight, silencer and laser, a 7,62mm carbine, a silencer, 49 caliber rounds 9mm, 37 caliber 7,62x39mm ammunition, 532 caliber .22 ammunition, 27 caliber 7,62mm war caliber, a stick, a dagger and two blue fireflies for the security forces.

The investigations began after a complaint of domestic violence filed by the man's partner.

The detainee will be present at the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of the Public Ministry of Silves to apply the coercive measures deemed appropriate.

With this, the arrests made this year by the Nucleus for Investigation and Support for Specific Victims (NIAVE) of the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, in the scope of crimes of domestic violence.
