PSDThe National Council of Jurisdiction of the PSD confirmed, through its Decision nº 34/2014, dated 18 November, the suspension of two militants from Portimão – Pedro Castelo Xavier and Fernando Imaginário. The suspension, according to the CNJ of the Social Democrats, has been in effect since last August.

That body of national jurisdiction thus confirmed the deliberation of the District Jurisdiction Council of Faro, communicated to the two militants its suspension, on 6 August.

The conclusion of this process finally allowed for the scheduling of elections for the new Municipal Political Commission and Plenary Board of the PSD/Portimão, which will take place on December 19, between 17:30 pm and 23:00 pm.

An electoral act was even scheduled for November 8, but, due to the fact that the National Council of Jurisdiction has not yet ruled, until that date, on the appeal for suspension presented by those two militants, it ended up being annulled, as then the Sul Informação reported first hand.

One of the candidates lining up for the December 19 elections, “Um Novo PSD de Portimão”, headed by Hélder Renato Rodrigues and Filipe Abreu, issued a statement this afternoon in which it clarifies that Pedro Xavier (current permanent councilor of the Chamber of Portimão, where he allied with the PS, making its majority viable) and Fernando Imaginário (Member of the Municipal Assembly) «are suspended from PSD militants».

The communiqué also recalls that “the existing agreement between the PS and the PSD in the Municipality of Portimão was declared void on 6 August 2014 by the District Jurisdiction Council of Faro, due to the illegitimacy of the signatories in the representation of the PPD/PSD in the coalition agreement signed with the PS of Portimão».

On the other hand, he underlines the candidacy of Hélder Renato Rodrigues and Filipe Abreu, "any position taken" by the suspended militants, "whether in the bodies where they are elected or in the media, does not bind the PPD/PSD of Portimão", since Pedro Xavier and Fernando Imaginário no longer represent the party.

The candidacy's public position is only intended to try to clarify "the PSD militants of Portimão and the Portimonenses". The fact is that, despite being suspended, nothing prevents councilor Pedro Xavier or municipal deputy Fernando Imaginário from maintaining these posts. In fact, everything indicates that they will do so, taking positions and decisions contrary to what the local PSD has been defending.

In the Municipal Assembly, to which the Sul Informação he learned, the future leadership of the Social-Democratic Council – whether it be exercised by Hélder Renato or by the other candidate, Luís Rodrigues – will have as one of its first tasks to reorganize the parliamentary group, until now constituted by three elements – Fernando Imaginário, Evelina Madeira and Luis Miguel Martins.

Keeping the three elements could only happen if Imaginário resigned, thus giving way to another PSD element. Therefore, everything indicates that the already reduced parliamentary group of the Social Democrats in the AM of Portimão will be reduced to two or even one element.

Is that, just recently, in the Extraordinary Municipal Assembly convened by the opposition on 17 November, municipal deputy Evelina Madeira did not appear, as did Imaginário and all the PS elements. There is, therefore, an unknown about what will be its future positioning and, therefore, about the composition of the micro parliamentary group of the PSD Portimão.
