Pedestrian level crossing disabled in Olhão_5A public session for the presentation and discussion of different proposals to solve the crossing of the railway at Av. Bernardino da Silva, in Olhão, after the closure of the uneven passage made by Refer, is scheduled for December 29, at 18:00 pm, in the Auditorium of the Municipal Library of the city.

The proposals will be presented by the president and technicians of the Municipality of Olhão. The works to be done must then be paid for by Refer.

According to the local authority, the session “is justified following the decision of the Board of Directors of Refer to definitively close the pedestrian crossing and after several contacts made by the Chamber with Refer, to minimize the negative impact of this measure”.

«It is now important to reflect on the alternatives that can best contribute to alleviate existing constraints, through a process that is intended to be serious and participatory», stresses the Chamber of Olhão.

In November, after popular protests against the closing of the pedestrian crossing, and after a meeting, in Lisbon, between the mayor António Pina and the Refer administration, the company announced that it will pay for the works to adapt the uneven passage which connects Avenida da República and Avenida Bernardino da Silva and serves as an alternative to the level crossing for pedestrians, which was deactivated next to the Olhão Station at the end of September.

From this meeting came the commitment that the municipality will "propose to Refer an economically rational solution that, unevenly, fulfills this purpose and safeguards the interests of the population, pledging Refer to financially assume the work by signing a Protocol of technical-financial cooperation'.

It is these proposals that will now be put up for public discussion by the municipality of Olhão.
