daysThe importance of implementing the contracting process in the management of Primary Health Care providing units as an essential factor for improving the provision of health care to the population and for the sustainability of the National Health Service was the motto for the 1st Conference on Contracting in Primary Health Care in the Algarve Region, organized on the 11th, by the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, in Faro.

The Conference brought together around seventy professionals from the institution this Thursday, in the auditorium of the Directorate of Services for the Algarve Region of the Directorate-General for Schools, in Faro.

The professionals shared experiences about the contractualization model that has been implemented and presented contributions with a view to improving its application at national level and in the Algarve Region.

Some of the topics under discussion were the current status of the contracting process in primary health care and the need to adapt it to the current organizational model of the units, with a clear and shared definition of the objectives and results to be achieved, associated with greater objectivity in the contractual indicators, taking into account the guiding documents such as the National Health Plan, the Local Health Plan, the Performance Plans and the Action Plans.

Participants also debated the greater involvement and accountability of all professionals in the process and in the results achieved, as a way to foster a more sustained articulation between the planning of activities and the application of SIADAP with the contractualization methodology in force.

The initiative included the participation of Nuno Ramos, member of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve, Joaquim Ramalho, director of the Contracting Department of ARS Algarve, José Carlos Queimado, executive director of ACES Central, Ricardo Mestre, director of the Management Department and Financing of ACSS Health Services, António Duarte, director of the Contracting Department of ARS Alentejo, Fernando Severino, representative of the Independent Trade Union of Doctors Zona Sul.

It also had, as commentators, professors from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve, Luís Coelho, Ruben Peixinho, Rui Nunes and doctoral student Duarte Tavares.

During the presentations of the participants of the various panels and the debate between the professionals present, a set of contributions was collected with a view to their integration in the form of recommendations for action at work and future proposals for improvement within the scope of the contractualisation”, stresses the ARS in a press release.

At the closing session, the chairman of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve, Moura Reis, accompanied by the other members of the Board of Directors, Nuno Ramos and Tiago Botelho, thanking all professionals for "having responded positively" to the invitation of ARS Algarve IP to participate in this working day, he highlighted the importance of this type of "more informal" meetings to clarify doubts and gather contributions from all with a view to optimizing the contracting processes and care performance of the Health Center Groups and their respective units functional and consequently improve the accessibility and provision of health care to the population.
