GolfThe Algarve hotel industry reinforced the positive results and, in ten months, has more overnight stays than in the whole year of 2013, according to the «Tourist Activity Highlight» for the month of October by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

«It is the confirmation of the best forecasts for the destination. In 2014, we already reached the best numbers of recent years and the Algarve continues to be the engine of tourism in Portugal», comments the president of the Region of Tourism.

For Desidério Silva, the region will have a “remarkable year at all levels, whether in terms of overnight stays, number of guests and income, with a great incentive from the broader internal market in Portugal and Spain”.

From January to October, accommodation units in the region reached 15,5 million overnight stays, an 11,2 percent increase over the same period of the previous year.

In the first ten months of the year, the Algarve has already registered around 760 thousand more overnight stays than last year's total, which closed with a total of 14,7 million overnight stays.

The performance of both residents (+19,5 percent) and non-residents (+8,7 percent) contributed to the results accumulated by destination in this indicator.

Among the main inbound markets, we highlight the year-on-year increases in the United Kingdom (+8,8 percent, to 5 million overnight stays), Germany (+5,5 percent, to 1,47 million) and Spain (+26,8 .836 percent to XNUMX thousand).

VilamouraAccording to INE, until October, total income grew 14,1 percent in the Algarve, to 665 million euros, which is also a new high for this indicator, which, in 2013 as a whole, was close to 610 million euros.

As for the number of guests in hotel establishments, it rose 15 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 3,3 million, a figure that compares favorably with the total of the previous year (3,1 million).

In the period under review, the Algarve is the national destination with the highest share of overnight stays: 37 percent of all overnight stays registered in Portugal by the INE, as much as the sum of the services provided by Lisbon (24 percent) and Madeira (13 percent) ).
