Portimão HospitalThe benevolent blood donations at the Hospital Unit of Portimão will have a new schedule starting next Monday, December 1st. Donations can now be made from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 17:00 pm, without a break for lunch.

Compared to the previous schedule, the Immunohemotherapy Service increases the daily collection period by two and a half hours. According to Cármen Rey, doctor responsible for the Immunohemotherapy Service, the change was made “as a way to respond to our donors, who constantly tell us that the current opening hours (8:30-13:00 and 14:00-15:30) are not comprehensive, we made an effort and we meet the necessary conditions for the extension of the harvest schedule».

According to a note sent to newsrooms by the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, the Portimão unit receives an average of 350 donations per month, which is sometimes insufficient to maintain the desirable stock.

“For example, an orthopedic surgery can take on average up to 2-3 units of blood, and if we receive a multiple trauma patient, more than 10 [units of blood] are needed,” reinforces Cármen Rey.

In addition to the weekly harvest, the Portimão Unit holds brigades on the first Sunday of each month, between 9:12 am and 30:XNUMX pm.

Weekly timetable for collecting benevolent blood donations in the three units of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve:

Faro - Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 13:00 pm and from 15:00 pm to 17:00 pm
Portimão - Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 17:00 pm
Lakes – last Thursday of each month, from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm
