ATTRIUM_Faro_CMFThe Atrium shopping centre, located on Rua de Santo António, in Baixa de Faro, will reopen "partially" next Christmas. The commercial infrastructure, which closed in August 2009, due to the financial problems of its promoters, will now have a new lease of life, as «Atrium – Centro Criativo da Baixa de Faro», with the collaboration of the promoters of the “Bívar” event.

This space will be used to «implement projects in the creative areas, such as workshops, temporary pop-up shops, workshops, exhibitions, thematic markets and interdisciplinary spaces in conjunction with local entities and other public or private business infrastructure in the Algarve region» .

The partial reopening of the vacant Atrium, which has not yet been announced and which will not entail costs for the municipality of Faro, was negotiated with Millenium BCP, the bank that holds the infrastructure property rights, and can be seen as a spin-off of the «Bívar» event, which has had several successful editions, in Faro.

This is because the promoters of «Bívar», the National Association of Designers, the Cultural Association Palácio do Tenente and the Sardinha de Papel store, are also involved in the Atrium project. They are joined by the municipal company Ambifaro and the Historic Zone Business Development Association of Faro.

«Although this action is not intended to provide a definitive solution to the Atrium, since the property is still on the market, this initiative is seen by the Municipality as an excellent way to give life to a building and an area that fills the collective imagination of the Farenses and which until now had no use of any kind, encouraging and supporting local creations», revealed the Chamber of Faro, in a press release.

«On the other hand, by returning this space to the conviviality of Farenses, we hope to meet the growing number of tourists who visit us», concluded the municipality.
