The work led to an investment of around 2,9 million euros and aimed at «increasing safety and improving the rail service». "With this intervention, the control of circulation is now centralized in the control desk of Faro, allowing for greater flexibility, capacity and availability”, illustrated REFER in a press release.

"The entire Algarve Line is now equipped with the most modern signaling control and command technology, leaving the safety of rail traffic to be solely dependent on human factors," added the company responsible for railway infrastructure in Portugal.
Associated with this project, which will allow an increase in the speeds practiced, "especially when approaching stations", there was an intervention "level of railway crossings, eliminating or mitigating the potential risk to the population".

«This will result, in addition to the reinforcement of safety conditions, an improvement in the quality of the offer, with regard to punctuality and reliability of operation, benefiting mobility conditions in the region», defends the company.

These interventions are part of an investment plan (2007-2014) on the Algarve Line, which globally amounts to 35 million euros and which also contemplated, «the rehabilitation of the road, the raising of platforms, the suppression and reclassification of passages. level and spot improvements in passenger buildings'.
