Manif Lx 31Oct 2014It is not a strike, per se, but it has nevertheless affected and led to the closure of public services throughout the region.

The unions representing the Civil Service have launched a pre-strikes warning for this Friday, October 31, whose objective is to allow workers from all over the country to participate in a demonstration that the Common Front of Public Administration Unions will hold in Lisbon, at 15 hours.

In the Algarve, the strike is mainly affecting the education sector, with several schools having to close their doors, but also some municipal services. This morning, many people from the Algarve were surprised by the closure of their children's school, due to the stoppage of state workers, which was not widely publicized.

This is because, explained to the Sul Informação the leader of the Union of Union of Unions of the Algarve António Goulart, there was no call for a strike by the unions, but rather a call for “an action to fight”.

“We launched the strike notice to allow anyone who wanted to be at the demonstration taking place in Lisbon. But, obviously, anyone who wants to go on strike, even without going there», said António Goulart.

On the part of the workers' representatives, there will be no “accounting of the numbers”, as it normally happens, because that is not the objective of the action of struggle today.
