Among the 40 current employees of the new space, twelve already worked in the old store, which was destroyed by the flames. "These twelve employees have never stopped working for the brand, having been in the group's other store and in the Decathlon spot that we opened in the center of Portimão", in Largo do Dique, which is now closing, he told the Sul Informação José Neves, South Regional Director of Decathlon.

The new store reopens in an area with good visibility, behind the old Adega Cooperativa, considered by the brand as «the best shopping area in Portimão», in a “stand alone” position, with a wide range of free parking. It has 1500 square meters of commercial area and represents an investment of two million euros.

In the first year, as revealed by José Neves, the store hopes to attract 250 customers, from all over the Barlavento Algarve and from some municipalities in Baixo Alentejo, such as Odemira, as well as tourists. "Those were the numbers we had in the Retail Park store," he revealed.

Decathlon_2For her part, Rebeca Santos, director of the Portimão store, told the Sul Informação that it will bet, among its equipment for more than 50 sports, on the sports activities that are most practiced in the city and in this part of the Algarve: water sports such as diving, surfing, canoeing, swimming are highlighted , as well as walking, running and mountain biking.

The new space also bets on its own brands and exclusive distribution, such as Quechua, Tribord, Kalenji, Btwin and others, aiming to offer “the best quality/price ratio” to customers.

With this opening, Decathlon now has, in Portugal, 22 stores spread from the north to the south of the country, a logistics center responsible for the annual distribution of 18 million sports articles and a production department that guarantees more than six million items. sports articles produced in Portugal every year, and mostly exported to the 33 countries where Decathlon is present.
