8139_proposal01_poster_spp_congresso_2014For three days, Albufeira hosts the XXX Congress of Pulmonology, which this year counts on the reinforced presence of the international medical community.

Under the motto “40 Years of Inspiring Pulmonology”, what is considered the main medical-scientific discussion forum in the field of pulmonology takes place this year simultaneously with the VIII Luso-Brazilian Congress of Pulmonology, at the Epic Congress Center Sana, at Praia da Falésia, Albufeira.

Topics such as Bronchial Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Lung Cancer, Pneumonia, Home Respiratory Care and Respiratory Rehabilitation will be, for three days, at the center of a multidisciplinary debate that does not forget the policies for the prevention of respiratory disease and the fight against smoking, which has been posing additional challenges to the medical community related to the fight against new forms of nicotine consumption.

Institutional relations with other specialties also continue to be a strong commitment of the SPP, which this year counts on the participation of institutions such as the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC), the Spanish Society of Neumología y Cirugía Torácica (SEPAR) and the Asociación Latinoamericana del Chest (ALAT).

For Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, president of the SPP, “the patient must be understood as a whole and not just a patient with a respiratory or cardiological condition, for example. It is in this sense that a new collaboration protocol will also be signed with the Portuguese Society of Pediatrics”.

At this meeting, the training of specialists was not forgotten either. In addition to a round table dedicated to the theme “Training in Pulmonology”, three courses will be held on the 9th of the month in the area of ventilation therapy, clinical investigation and communication techniques.

Already considered the largest national discussion forum on respiratory diseases, this is a meeting that brings together, from November 6th to 8th, in Albufeira, more than 700 national and international health professionals to participate in a program based on 4 Conferences, 3 Round Tables, 2 Institutional Sessions, 9 Symposia, 8 Sessions under the responsibility of Working Committees and 264 presentations, which constitute a record number of free communications: it reflects the commitment of those who “inspire pulmonology”.
