OpenDays_2014 _VP Nuno Marques“Health Inequalities: How to deal with demographic challenges?” was one of the central themes discussed in the 2014 edition of Open Days, an initiative of the European Union that brought together in Brussels, for a week, around 6000 participants representing European cities and regions.

The Algarve participated in the seminar dedicated to health in cross-border cooperation, with the intervention of CCDR Algarve being entrusted to Vice-President Nuno Marques, who had the opportunity to reveal good practices, plans and projects developed in recent years in the cross-border zone of the Euroregion Alentejo-Algarve -Andalusia.

Some examples of projects developed in this area were presented, such as the Open Window to the Family, under the responsibility of the Regional Health Administration, in partnership with the Andaluz de Salud Service of the Consejeria de Salud of the Junta de Andalucia, which has developed hundreds of articles and videos, a platform with a bilingual website for automatic registration and management of sending information to users and families, newsletters for parents of children aged 0 to 12 years, among others.

Other cases presented were the URA project – Radiotherapy Unit of the Algarve and Telemedicine, which have been an asset in the health area for the Algarve.

For the next period of cooperation 2014-2020, it is intended to revisit some themes to complement and stimulate synergies between regional health entities: ARS Algarve, Hospital de Faro and the Hospital de Huelva.

In this edition of Open Days, the Algarve was part of a group comprising the regions of Lodzkie (Poland), Alentejo (Portugal), Extremadura (Spain), Sardinia (Italy) and Vysocina (Czech Republic).
