The restoration work on the altarpieces of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Visitação, in Odeleite, will be inaugurated by the Bishop of the Algarve, D. Manuel Neto Quintas, on Saturday, October 5th, at 16 pm, in a ceremony taking place in this village in the northeast of the Algarve.
In a total investment of just over 108 euros, the intervention, by the Parish Church Factory of Odeleite, included the conservation and restoration of three of the Church's five altarpieces (altarpieces of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, São Miguel and São Pedro) , whose repair was urgent due to the high degree of degradation.
The altarpieces presented structural and aesthetic problems, namely, cracks and fissures in the wooden supports and insect infestation, detachment and opening of joints, significant loss of polychromy, with the whole of the pieces being so degraded that the work involved the total disassembly of the parts, partial or, in some cases, total replacement of structural elements.
The Odeleite Parish Church Factory project was financed in 60% by the PRODER Program (a total of 58.818,48 euros), with the Municipality being responsible for the investment ineligible for the application, which was 49.323,12 euros.
