paulo bentoPaulo Bento is no longer the national coach, he has just announced the Portuguese Football Federation. In a statement published on its website, the Portuguese Football Federation announces that «today, September 11, Paulo Bento's contractual relationship with the FPF and at the service of the National Teams ends».

According to the FPF, this is "a decision taken jointly between the FPF Board and Paulo Bento."

Paulo Bento had renewed his contract until the end of Euro 2016 even before the 2014 World Cup, to give body to a continuity project ahead of the selection.

However, after the defeat of the Portuguese team at the World Cup in Brazil and the recent 0-1 defeat against Albania, at home, at the start of the qualifying phase for Euro 2016, the outcome was already expected.

The Federation reveals that "it is already working on a structured solution to manage our Teams and that will be known soon".

Notice to FPF in full:

«The Portuguese Football Federation announces that today, September 11, Paulo Bento's contractual relationship with the FPF and at the service of the National Teams ends.

This was a decision taken jointly by the FPF Board and Paulo Bento.

We are grateful for everything that Paulo Bento has done for our team, namely for Portugal's qualification for EURO 2012 and for the 2014 World Cup.

The FPF is already working on a structured solution to manage our teams, which will be known soon.

Thanks again to coach Paulo Bento».
