These were just some of the topics discussed on Friday, the 12th, at the meeting between the Secretary of State for Local Administration and the presidents of the Municipal Councils of the region, at the headquarters of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, in Faro.

In a long meeting with António Leitão Amaro, in which, according to AMAL, «an intense participation of the Algarve's mayors» was registered, «the main concerns and difficulties that are currently imposed on the Municipal Councils and that limit and condition the municipal management and the answers to the needs of the citizens».

Among the topics under discussion were also the future decentralization of new competences for the municipalities and AMAL, in execution contracts, and the professional internship program, as well as the autonomy of the local authorities.

AMAL adds that «the completion of this meeting allowed the Algarve's mayors to share their concerns and difficulties felt during the municipal management of each municipality, providing the Secretary of State for Local Administration with direct contact and greater proximity to the specificities that characterize each of the council realities in the Algarve»
