Berbigão Festival 2 - CMP_Filipe da Palma ArchiveCockle pasta, rice, porridge, patties or natural cockles, made at the moment, are some of the delicacies that can be found in the 12th edition of the Festival do Berbigão, which the Polidesportivo da Figueira, in the parish of Mexilhoeira Grande, Portimão, welcomes the 13th and 14th of September.

An event in which thousands of visitors are expected and where, in addition to cuisine inspired by this seafood, you can also count on music. On the first day, Pedro Miguel Silva and Paulo Ribeiro perform. On Sunday, after the performance of organist and vocalist Vera Lúcia, there will be traditional music by Amigos da Figueira, followed by the group «Generation XXI».

The choice of the cockle to be the star of this festival is due to the fact that «the local population continues to maintain a strong connection with the collection of cockles in the Ria de Alvor, a means of survival for many families who depended on this activity».

The event will take place between 19pm and 1am and the ticket price remains at 3 euros, with the right to a saucer of cockles. The organization is the Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão, Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande.
