John Philippe WarriorJoão Filipe Guerreiro was crowned runner-up on 19 September in the world accordion competition “Premio Internazionale della Fisarmonica Cittá di Castelfidardo”, in Italy.

The Algarve accordionist, a student of Professor Hermenegildo Guerreiro, won 2nd place in the “Varieté” Senior category, in one of the most prestigious international accordion competitions in the world, held in the Italian city of Castelfidardo.

The Contest had dozens of competitors of different nationalities (China, Russia, Finland, France, Spain, Brazil), distributed by different categories in the contest.

Portugal once again has an accordionist on the podium of this competition, after, in 2002, João Frade (also then a student of Hermenegildo Guerreiro) achieved victory in this award.

João Filipe Guerreiro's participation was supported by Mito Algarvio – Association of Accordion Players of the Algarve, headquartered in the municipality of Castro Marim, which «in this way continues to take firm steps in the dignification and promotion of the accordion, a major instrument in the cultural roots of the Algarve ».
