Firefighters2The fire that raged since yesterday afternoon, in Sítio dos Fitos, near S. Marcos da Serra (Silves), was dominated during the early hours of this Sunday, according to the Civil Protection website. Closer to morning, the fire was considered extinguished.

O fire started around 14:40 pm on Saturday, in an area of ​​forest and eucalyptus, having quickly evolved into two fronts, which had more than 200 operational, supported by 50 vehicles and a heavy helicopter involved in fighting the flames.

Reduced to a front since around 20:30, the fire was declared dominated at 4:20 am this morning.

To do the aftermath and avoid re-igniting, 200 men remain in the place, supported by about four dozen vehicles.

Since 00:00, the Civil Protection has registered 16 occurrences of forest fires in Portugal, all of them already extinct. At this hour, there are no active fires on the Continent.

Throughout the day yesterday, there were 85 fires across the country, fought by 1968 workers, 520 vehicles and 26 air vehicles.
