Praia da Salema, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, will host, on the 2nd and 3rd of August, the traditional summer festivals in honor of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes.
The high point of these celebrations will take place on the 2nd, at 16 pm, with the celebration of the Eucharist, followed by the traditional procession across the sea where fishing vessels dressed for the purpose participate.
A vessel will carry the image of Our Lady, where fishermen will take the opportunity to dedicate a prayer to her protector, Our Lady of the Navigators, and to ask for protection from storms and accidents on all trips, as well as for the year to be abundant in fish.
Musical animation is also part of the celebrations, which will feature fado singer Ricardo Neto, artist Edmundo Inácio, and the Odiáxere Folklore and Ethnographic Ranch.
The two days will still be marked by snacks and by the celebration of the fete. The dances with the performance of artists Paulo Coelho and their dancers and José Manuel Pasadinhas will close those festivities.
Organized by the Organizing Committee for the Construction of the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes and by the Clube Recreativo Praia da Salema, the initiative has the support of the Vila do Bispo City Council.
