The Public Agency for Ports of Andalusia has started the procedures for launching the tender for the dredging of Foz do Guadiana, whose work should start at the end of the summer.
The first phase of the “Navegabilidad del Guadiana” project, approved in the Operational Program for Cross-Border Cooperation Spain Portugal (POCTEP), will thus materialize.
The launch of the competition follows the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Desilting of Foz do Guadiana, signed in Lisbon, last March 28, between the general director of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services and the director of the Public Agency of Ports of Andalusia, which determines the technical premises and monitoring of the works by the competent authorities.
The Algarve Regional Development and Coordination Commission explains, in a press release, that the «intervention at the mouth will recover the dredging quota of -3,5 meters, thus allowing the safe navigation of sporting and fishing vessels».
