Garbage collection in the riverside area of Olhão, where most of the city's restaurants are located, is being carried out from 03:00 am, daily, since the beginning of the month, a time that will be maintained during the summer period.
Among other measures, the Municipality and AmbiOlhão intend that, by complying with the rules in force, «the city is increasingly cleaner, which only brings benefits to those involved».
All undifferentiated waste (garbage) from food and beverage establishments located on Avenida 5 de Outubro and surrounding areas should be deposited in semi-buried containers on Avenida 5 de Outubro, Rua Dr. Alberto Iria or Rua da Conserveira.
This waste cannot be deposited in surface containers on streets adjacent to the avenue, intended solely for the disposal of household waste.
Regarding recyclable waste (glass, paper/cardboard, plastic packaging or others), there are several alternatives, including depositing in recycling bins located next to the Markets or joining the door-to-door selective collection system.

In this case, the free daily collection is carried out by Ambilinha, directly at commercial establishments. Registration is required by calling 800 300 289, with containers and plastic bags provided for the disposal of waste).
«This solution is preferential», defend AmbiOlhão and the Municipality, as it «avoids the overload of the ecopoints and does not have any burden on the producers».
Exceptionally, for bars, when the space available inside the establishment is not enough to store paper/cardboard, glass and packaging waste overnight, they can be placed next to the Market recycling bins, from 03:00 am , with the collection being carried out daily, around 07:00 am.
However, this option also implies registration in the Ambilinha system, so that the establishment can benefit from the free supply of bags.
After this registration has been made, the Ambiolhão services should be contacted (tel. 289 720003 or email [email protected]), informing them that they intend to start depositing recyclable waste with the containers on the Market, so that it can exist an “effective articulation between the entities involved in the process”.

The use of containers on Rua dos Sete Cotovelos, «which has been continuously used by some commercial establishments, leads to the deposition of waste outside the containers, with the consequent degradation of hygiene and health conditions in this area, a situation that harms seriously affect the quality of life of the residents of that place, in addition to the negative aspect it gives, contributing to the bad image of the city, which does not benefit the aforementioned establishments in any way».
