Old Beer Factory of FaroThe movement «Save Faro, with the Heart” (SF-CFC) accused the Council of being “locking in hotel accommodation and harming the council”, considering that “in the last nine years, with regard to the heritage of the municipality and instruments that depend directly on the Chamber, the majority parties did not accelerate and even stopped and took steps backwards.

The SF-CFC says that the current and previous executives "reduced the potential number of beds, by accepting that the municipal patrimony of the Former Magisterium and Beer Factory be given other uses without being hoteliers", namely "housing or others".

For the movement, these buildings should only be intended "for hotels and associated tourist and cultural purposes, instead of continuing to accept in the text of the competitions, as until now, housing or others". "They must immediately correct such errors and activate the tenders, either by sale or another form of appropriate transfer", they demanded.

The tenders to which the SF-CFC refers are the successive public auctions of this and other municipal heritage. So far, no proposal has been received by the local authority that would satisfy the auction's requirements. Something that could change soon, according to the president of the Chamber of Faro Rogério Bacalhau, who assured that there are interested in buying the Primary Magisterium building, who is expected to advance with proposals in the Public Hasta that was launched recently.

The movement that supported José Vitorino's candidacy for mayor assured that «at the end of the 2002 / 2005 term, everything was at an advanced stage for the municipality to carry out the Competition for a Charming Hotel in the former Primary Magisterium, including a favorable opinion from the General Directorate of Tourism». It would also be guaranteed «a 4-star hotel in the Sports and Leisure Park of Faro, then created, with the assent of CCDRAlgarve». "Time passed and almost nine years later there are no hotels and they only decided to move forward when the market was already in retraction," they accused.

«On the other hand, it should be noted that, within the scope of Protalgarve revised in 2007, to an important extent, Faro it may have two Tourism Development Centers (NDT). It so happens that the open Public Tenders were poorly prepared and the respective processes have been stopped for a long time, and the Municipal Assembly is not informed of any ongoing initiative by the Chamber», they added.
