Young people will make Praia da Rocha vacationers aware of the natural values ​​of coastal areas

stone beachBetween the 28th of July and the 1st of August, the Praia da Rocha Sports Area will host the occupational free time program aimed at young people “Environmental Awareness Raising of the Natural Values ​​of Coastal Zones”.

Promoted by the South Nucleus of the Portuguese Association of Environmental Engineers, under the OTL program of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, this project is aimed at young people between 12 and 17 years old, who will sensitize users of Praia da Rocha to natural values ​​and threats affecting coastal zones.

The approach to the content will be interactive and adaptive to the knowledge levels of the young participants, with a maximum of 15 elements, and will have the presence of an animator/trainer.

During the five days it takes place, the project will have the following structure: 9:00 am to 10:30 am Formative session on an environmental theme (Monday – Waste; Tuesday – Climate Change; Wednesday – Coastal Zones; Thursday – Water; Friday – Biodiversity); 10:30-11:30 Raising awareness of beach users (carrying out surveys); 11:30am-13:00pm Pedagogical games and waste collection and sorting.

The initiative is associated with the “Separar para Alimentar” Campaign, aimed at supporting the Algarve Food Bank and developed through the forwarding of recyclable waste (plastic, metal and cardboard packaging for liquid food) collected during the cleaning of the beaches to a facility at the ALGAR – Valorization and Treatment of Solid Waste SA, which is a partner in this project, which also has the support of the Municipality of Portimão.
