energy savingThe Lagoa City Council, in partnership with the Regional Agency for Energy and Environment of the Algarve (AREAL), joined the pilot project “Nearly Zero-Energy Sports Facilities”, to encourage the reduction of energy consumption in sports facilities and public lighting.

After studying the reality of energy consumption in municipal sports facilities and public lighting, the project will encourage the practice of saving, through the development of new technologies, the implementation of integrated renovation packages and the introduction of renewable energies.

An organizational instrument to support municipal energy management will be created, considering the survey of 143 transformer stations and 9.338 public lighting points.

Today, more than ever, cost reduction is an extremely important factor in energy management, more pressing when public money is at stake, hence the rapid realization of the importance of this study and therefore also the immediate adhesion of the City Council of Lagoa to the project, as President Francisco Martins stressed to the AREAL delegation, with whom he met last July 2nd.

“I believe that this AREAL project meets our concerns, as well as those of the population, who sometimes draw attention to the fact that public lighting is still on in broad daylight. But this is being treated and managed with extreme care, given the interests of the community and the Municipality. The more energy consumption is saved in sports facilities and public lighting, the easier it becomes to continue our social project”, said Mayor Francisco Martins.
