Algarve films can also feature Hollywood stars. The Portuguese Diogo Morgado, whose popularity is on the rise in the United States of America after having starred in the character of Jesus Christ in "O Filho de Deus", was last weekend in the Algarve, for the filming of the film "Presa" , by Sonat Duyar, a short film produced by the Algarve New Light Pictures that should be ready in 2014.

The increasingly famous and renowned Portuguese actor came directly from the United States to the Algarve for the recordings of this work, which took place in Faro and Almancil. It was in this town in Loulé that the Algarve production company was born, which has had successes and whose creativity convinced Diogo Morgado to participate in the film, without receiving any remuneration.

«The actor received the script for “Presa” by e-mail and was so impressed with the story and the work developed by this small and young independent producer, that he made himself available to participate pro bono in the project», revealed the New Light Picture.

"I often receive invitations to participate in short films and this was, by far, the best shorts I've ever read", confessed the actor, in an interview given to the producer. «What makes me here is the quality of what was presented to me and because I firmly believe that it will be – why not – New Light Pictures changing Portuguese cinema», said Diogo Morgado.

And he is far from being the only one to appreciate the talent of the team of young Almancilians, given the success of New Light Pictures' first work "Command", from 2010, which won multiple awards, was shown all over the world and went viral on social networks, namely on Youtube.

Since this first success, the Algarve producer has shown great dynamism and has not stopped working.
In February of this year, premiered the short film «Lost Haven», which is currently circulating on the film festival circuit. Also for 2014, the premiere of the short film «Payload», by Patrício Faísca and Sonat Duyar, is also planned, entirely shot in the Algarve and with the participation of actors Vera Kolodzig and Diogo Amaral, financed by an English producer.

As for the «Presa», it is already at a very advanced stage. «The project was filmed in Almancil and Faro, with the voluntary work of a team that involved nearly 50 people, supported in various ways by numerous local entities, including the Parish Council of Almancil, the Municipality of Loulé, the Dona Filipa Hotel, the Social Association and Cultural in Almancil, the restaurants “O Gimbras”, “Baixa Hamburgueria”, “Mr. Frango” and “Sushi Pearl”, the make-up artist and characterist Marisa Francisco, and the PSP of Faro», revealed the producer.

“In addition to the participation of actress Rita Martins and the cinematography of Pedro Matos, the project intends to compete in major international film festivals to represent the best that is done in Portuguese cinema”, he added.

At this stage, secrecy is the watchword, not least because, as the screenwriter and director of «Presa» Sonat Duyar illustrates, «as it is a very short film, anything that is said ends up being too soon». Even so, he reveals that "it is a heavy and raw film, which portrays without shame a reality that most of us prefer to pretend doesn't exist."

«I'm super satisfied with the result. I think we have a product here that will move people and make them think. And I owe everything to the wonderful team we managed to bring this story to life,” Sonat Duyar told New Light Pictures
