From 10:00 am this Thursday, June 19, the controlled landslide work will begin in three areas of the cliffs of Praia da Rocha, in an operation that will involve the creation of a safety cord in each of the areas to be intervened.

The cliffs that will be intervened are located at the east of the Forte de Santa Catarina, above the Clube Naval de Portimão warehouse, to the south of the same Fort, namely at the rear of the MEO Spot space, as well as on the cliff in front of the Varandas da Rocha building. .

This is a preventive operation promoted by the Portuguese Agency for the Environment and Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, in collaboration with the Municipality of Portimão, Captaincy of the Port of Portimão and GNR, which, for this purpose, will use elements of the Group of Protection and Relief Intervention, specialists in search and rescue in collapsed structures.

The Municipality of Portimão informs that this sanitation operation "should be carried out manually by the GNR Intervention Group for Protection and Relief, thus involving increased risks, namely for the technicians who carry out the operation".

Therefore, it is even more necessary to establish a safety cord, “in order to prevent people from approaching the place and that they might somehow get out of harm's way”.

The interventions will be carried out from the top of the cliffs to the base, with "the unstable parts marked to fall, and then all portions that, due to their size and fall, may put people who transit at the base of these areas at risk" .
