Algar SA, the company responsible for the Multi-municipal System for the Recovery and Treatment of Solid Waste in the Algarve, has put into practice a new strategy defined for this summer's bathing season.
For this, the company resorted to subcontracting the collection service of ecopoints for the Municipalities of Lagos and Albufeira.
According to Algar, this is a way of guaranteeing that "there will be a reinforcement of the selective collection teams, which will allow the quality of the services provided to be maintained".
The need to expand the teams in these two municipalities is linked, adds the company, to the fact that "they are the municipalities with the greatest tourist influx during the summer months, and where there is the greatest filling of ecopoints during this period".
Algar stresses, however, that "the collaboration of citizens and local authorities is fundamental for the success of the adopted strategy", since "if the incorrect behavior persists, the measures now adopted will be of little use".
He emphasizes that "it is very important that citizens are aware that cars parked improperly in front of selective disposal equipment make our work of collecting waste packaging that is deposited in recycling bins impossible".
To combat this problem, and to raise awareness among drivers, Algar has developed a bilingual leaflet, in Portuguese and English, which will be placed in all badly parked vehicles, «alerting them about the inconvenience and inconvenience of the situation».
