Richard Marques is the new Municipal Operational Commander of Portimão and Commander of the local Voluntary Fire Department, following the formal swearing-in ceremony, which took place last night at the Salão Nobre of the Municipality of Portimão.

In front of a room full of people, the new commander affirmed himself "with full awareness of the responsibilities assumed", taking the opportunity to focus on the transversality that characterizes the area of ​​civil protection and defending "the joint effort between the various agents to help the close”, while ensuring that he was “determined to strengthen the spirit of corps in the firefighters of Portimão, establishing bridges of cooperation and streamlining procedures.”

When addressing a vote of confidence in the future of the corporation, "almost completing 88 years of existence serving the community in a disinterested and solidary way", the new commander reiterated his "firm bet on restructuring and qualification, to do more and better" , stressing that the Firefighters Volunteers of Portimão "have always lived up to all the missions entrusted to them, the result of the dedication and commitment of a group of men and women available 24 hours a day, to the detriment of their own families."

According to Richard Marques, "firefighters provide an invaluable service in the defense of lives, heritage and the environment, a service that must be done with professionalism and rigor", remembering that as of June 1st "we will have another challenge ahead of us very demanding, with a view to operationalizing the special device for fighting forest fires.”

For the chairman of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Portimão, Álvaro Bila, the new commander “has brought more value to the corporation, due to his vast experience, and one of our main objectives is to invest decisively in the proper training of the troops. ”
Nomination generates consensus

The new Municipal Operational Commander was appointed by the Mayor Isilda Gomes, who also chairs the Municipal Civil Protection Authority, and who in her intervention praised Richard Marques' path in conducting missions and people in the field, considering him “the the right man for this position” and highlighting the fact that his name was unanimously approved by the city council.

"We will do everything in our power to have available means and men capable of facing this unequal fight against all adversities and therefore we must be well equipped, well trained and determined to face it", promised Isilda Gomes, who expressed her "pleasure for an act of such great weight and significance” to have filled the main hall of the chamber.

Addressing the many firefighters present, the president greeted "those who embrace this extremely noble cause and which represents the purest spirit of solidarity, as it is in the firefighters that authentic self-denial is found, as they give their all for others, sometimes paying with his life."

After defending that, in terms of civil protection and security, there should be a global vision for the Algarve region, mainly due to its importance for national tourism, the mayor defended that “Portimão, increasingly a tourist destination of excellence and quality , owes a lot to its firefighters, and this takeover is a major step that the municipality takes in terms of the safety of people and goods.”

"I have no doubts that the Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Portimão will always be beside the new commander, as well as all municipal agents, so that Richard Marques pursues his goals", assured Isilda Gomes, for whom "every citizen must be one civil protection agent, by not making serious mistakes, as each one of us is also responsible for the safety of others and we will all be few, for example, to prevent forest fires during the hot days ahead.”

On the occasion of this swearing-in, several activities related to civil protection and firefighters took place at Largo 1º de Maio yesterday, including a static exhibition of resources and resources and several sessions of awareness and public information.
