The PS deputy elected by Algarve Miguel Freitas demanded assurances from minister Paulo Macedo that "the restructuring of health services in the Algarve Region will not result in the closure of the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) of the Loulé Health Center" and questioned the Ministry of Health on this matter in the Assembly of the Republic.

In addition to wanting to see the maintenance of this service ensured, the socialist deputy defended "the reinforcement of means and equipment allocated to it". The initiative of the Algarvian deputy was taken yesterday, one day before the demonstration in favor of the SUB in Loulé, scheduled for this Wednesday, at 18:30 pm, in which socialists want the population to "participate en masse".

In the question addressed to the tutelage, Miguel Freitas recalled some of the problems that this health unit has been struggling with throughout this month. From the outset, the situation verified at the beginning of May, when «the Basic Emergency Service of the Loulé Health Center was closed due to a lack of doctors, with users having been diverted to the Hospital Center of Faro, himself on the verge of rupture'.

The parliamentarian elected by the Algarve said that he did not intend to «assess who was responsible for the situation», but rather «to ensure that there is no shortage of doctors in the Basic Emergency Service at the Loulé Health Centre, nor nurses and administrative staff related to it, allowing its doors to remain open and health care to continue to be provided to the Loulé community».

What matters, says the parliamentarian, is to “fully guarantee that the Loulé Health Center has sufficient medical supplies to fulfill its mission, and that some equipment, such as the INEM's SIV ambulance, they do not suffer from any restriction on their normal operation'.

Miguel Freitas also wants to know «who is responsible for the Basic Emergency Services network in Loulé, Albufeira and Vila Real de Santo António», a question that had already been raised by PS/Algarve. despite being the only entity to provide public clarifications on these failures at SUB de Loulé, the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) claims that it is the Hospital Center of the Algarve that has the responsibility to guarantee the functioning of the unit, eventually, with the support of the ARS.

The PS deputy also asks about what measures the Ministry of Paulo Macedo intends to develop, aiming to ensure that the Basic Emergency Services in the Algarve will not be closed again, mainly due to lack of human resources.
