A guitar concert, free guided visits to the Municipal Museum of Archeology, a day with the potter and a peddy-paper are the activities to be promoted in Silves, between the 17th and 20th, to celebrate the International Day of Museums, which marks the 18th of May.

The special program opens with a guitar concert by Juan León, on May 17, at 21:30 pm, where themes that address not only the classical period, but some more contemporary ones, by South American composers will be performed.

On International Museum Day, May 18, all visitors will have free entry to the Silves Archeology Museum.

Also on this day, the activity "visits accompanied by characters from other times" will take place, where four characters from our history - a man from prehistory, a Roman, a Muslim and a Christian - will show the objects in use at the time when each one lived.

The visits will take place in the morning, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm, and in the afternoon from 14:00 pm to 17:00 pm, including visits to the well-cistern, classified as a national monument.

Also on the 18th, at 16 pm, there will be an action to integrate a replica of an Arab Inscription commemorating the construction of a tower on the Almedina wall in the collection.

On the morning of the 19th, at 10:00 am, “a day with the potter from Mouraria” will begin, an activity of plastic expression using clay, where participants will be invited to reproduce pieces based on ceramics from the archaeological excavation of the Forno de Modern Period at Rua Elias Garcia (Silves), on display at the Archeology Museum.

In the afternoon, there will be an action “from excavation to exhibition” where the school community and children and young people will be able to get in touch with the activity of the archaeologist during the excavation phase and, of the restorer, in the reconstruction and restoration of the piece.

The celebrations of International Museum Day close on May 20th with the peddy paper “Discovering the Museum”, aimed at the school community and children and young people. The action takes place between 10:00 am and 11:30 am.

International Museum Day was created by the ICOM (International Council of Museums) about 37 years ago, with the aim of raising public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.

In order to give a universal meaning to the celebrations, every year ICOM adopts a theme common to all countries, being this year's theme: “Museums: collections create connections”.
