Last week, Lagoa City Council delivered 235 individual protection equipment against forest and urban fires to the municipality's Volunteer Firefighters.

The handover was made by Mayor Francisco Martins to Fire Brigade Commander Vitor Rio Alves – who also exercises the functions of Municipal Operational Commander, responsible for Civil Protection in the municipality of Lagoa – and to other staff of that fire brigade. Also present was Joaquim Lima, president of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Lagoa.

The equipment was delivered as part of the application to PO ALGARVE 21 of the “Strategic Re-equipment of the Civil Protection of the Algarve” operation, in which the promoter is AMAL and the 16 Algarve Municipalities.

The Municipality of Lagoa had a public expenditure approved in the amount of 347.742,33 euros, which corresponds to an 85% contribution from the ERDF, of 295.580,98 euros.

These 235 pieces of equipment are intended for individual protection against forest fires (179), including uniform pants and coats, boots, breeches and gloves, as well as 56 equipment for fighting urban fires, including aricas, full nomex suits, breeches, boots, helmets and gloves. These are work items worth 65.336,91 euros, of which 35.31,25 euros are supported by the CML and 30.019,66 euros by the FEDER.

The Lagoa City Council emphasizes, in a press release, that "it has maintained an important humanitarian partnership with the Volunteer Firefighters, and its Association is, simultaneously, financially helped to carry out its activity".
