The executive of the Municipality of Lagoa (Azores) congratulated the new executive of the Municipality of Lagoa (Algarve) and announced the return of the traditional religious festival of the “Divino Espírito Santo”.

Within the scope of the twinning protocol between the Municipalities of Lagoa (Algarve) and Lagoa (Azores), signed on January 19, 2008, - and in order to strengthen relations between the two Municipalities, with a view to increasing cooperation and exchange of experiences in administrative management and modernization, with a view to demanding and constant improvement and simplification of the provision of services to the population – Francisco Martins, President of the Algarve Chamber, and the rest of the executive received a delegation from his Azorean counterpart, composed by President João Ferreira Ponte, his Chief of Staff Maria Odete Cabral and deputy Verónica Almeida.

The work meeting took place at the Lagoa Town Hall building, where the Azorean delegation presented their greetings, in this first contact with the new executive of the Algarve Town Hall.

In an exchange of political and administrative views, the history of twinning was reviewed, as well as, in future perspectives, it was discussed the possibility of various exchanges and exchange of ideas in all areas, namely in the areas of competences that fall to the Power. Local, which cannot distort the defense of citizens, especially in the economic, cultural, social, political areas and many others.

The Azorean mayor João Ferreira da Ponte, in addition to having invited Francisco Martins and his executive to visit the Azores, spoke about the possibility of bringing back to Lagoa (Algarve) – probably on June 8 (date to be confirmed), the traditional party of the Divine Holy Spirit.

The festival takes place in the Azores, this year, on the 27th, 28th and 29th of June, in collaboration with the parish of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos and the parish council of Água de Pau and whose festivities will take place in Largo de Santiago, in the village of Água de Pau.

This is an organization under the responsibility of the Municipality of Lagoa (Azores) which decided, this year, to recover the Empire of S. Pedro, long extinct in this town.

Lagoa (Azores) has a tradition of promoting Empires of the Divine Espírito Santo in partnership with various institutions, such as the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, Cabouco Scouts Group and the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Parish.

This year, the people of Lagos in the Algarve will also be able to count on this religious-cultural event.

The objective of this initiative is to preserve and promote the culture and traditions that are part of the collective memory of the people of Lagos and the Azores and that contribute to defining the identity of the municipality and the Azores in what is most unique, such as the cult. to Divino Espírito Santo, which assumes itself as a devotion with great tradition within that community of Lagos.
