Maria Keil from the city of Silva will be one of six honored by the Portuguese philatelic issue “Vultos da História e Cultura”, to be launched on Monday, 24 March, announced CTT.
Painter, designer, decorator, graphic and furniture designer, ceramist, set designer, costume designer, writer, author of tapestries and tile composition, Maria Keil was a unique artist in her diversity.
Born on August 9 in Silves, she studied Painting at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon, died at the age of 97, in 2012. Every day thousands of people come across her works in various public spaces, whether in Lisbon, Luanda, Paris or New York.
Florbela Espanca, Joaquim Namorado, João Hogan, António Dacosta and João Sebastião e Silva are the remaining five figures who embody so many other national stamps in the “Vultos da História e Cultura” series.
This issue aims to honor eminent figures who have contributed to the prestige and wealth of Portuguese culture and is launched on Monday, March 24th.
Similar to what has been happening over the years, this year marks the centenary of the birth of each of the honorees. The only exception is the Alentejo writer Florbela Espanca, who was born on December 8, 1894 in Vila Viçosa.
In this way, CTT Correios de Portugal fulfills one of the purposes of the stamps, the dissemination of the national cultural and literary heritage, also reaffirming its commitment to Portuguese history and traditions.
Anyone buying a stamp with any of these figures will be helping to make known the work and genius of the writer Florbela Espanca, the plastic artist Maria Keil, the poet and essayist Joaquim Namorado, the painter João Hogan, the poet and painter António Dacosta and mathematician João Sebastião e Silva.
Each of the honorees will receive a stamp with their own print run and face value. The Florbela Espanca stamp will have a circulation of 55 copies and a face value of €000.
The stamps of Maria Keil and Joaquim Namorado will both have a circulation of 120 copies, and a face value of €000 and €0.50, respectively.
The João Hogan and António Dacosta stamps will have a print run and face value of €175 and €000, and €0,70 and €110, respectively.
Finally, João Sebastião e Silva will be remembered on a stamp with a circulation of 165 copies, each worth €000.
In addition to photographs of the honorees, all stamps will contain details that refer to the work and creations for which they stood out, thus helping all those who come across these prints to remember or get to know the reasons why they are considered figures of history and culture Portuguese.
All stamps, whose design was in charge of atelier B2, will have a format of 30,6 mm X 40 mm.
This issue is available at any of the 623 stores that CTT has throughout the country. First-day cancellations will be made at any of the four usual stores.
