The PSD/Faro accuses the PS council of the Algarve capital of being "carrying a freight to António Pina", the mayor of Olhão, when denouncing the alleged existence of an open sewer in Faro, at the Ribeira das Lavadeiras site. An accusation that the Farense autarchy had already refuted and that the social democrats are now saying is an attempt by the socialists to withdraw "political dividends in a matter where there are clearly no dividends to be withdrawn".

Last week, the Farenses socialists claimed that the Ribeira das Lavadeiras, next to the roundabout of the EN 125 at the exit of Faro, towards Olhão, was «transformed into an open-air sewer line, running freely to the Ria Formosa, despite the official entities, namely the Municipality of Faro and the municipal company Fagar, have been aware of that situation for at least two years».

Statements considered "serious" by the PSD, which alleges that they denigrate "the image of Faro, capital of Ria Formosa, in a scorched earth policy that no one benefits from, except for the interests of the Mayor of Olhão».

António Pina is brought to this party dispute by the PSD Faro to consider that the latter, «due to the lack of support on its own land, (…) came to Faro look for muscle to try to get rid of responsibilities in a matter in which his hands are not clean», recalling that the mayor of Olhon has already admitted the existence of this problem.

'There are no domestic wastewater lines running in Faro to Ria Formosa, without the deserved and correct treatment. The place, falsely appointed as the stage of an “environmental crime”, is after all a stream that receives the flow of a line of rainwater that, standing still in an inert bed, generate bad odors due to stagnation», said the PSD/Faro, a position in line with that taken by the municipal executive led by the social democrat Rogério Bacalhau.

The PSD considers that the Farenses socialists weave accusations "without any technical foundation", in what they consider a "reckless demonstration of demagoguery, seeking to stage an alarm, under the cover of supposed facts that we all know do not exist".

“The PS does not provide any proof of what it says nor does it bring any technical content to address this issue. All it does is simply draw political conclusions on an issue that it manifestly does not dominate,” say the Social Democrats.
