On March 28, the birth of the writer Alexandre Herculano is celebrated, as well as the National Day of Historic Centers, promoted by the Portuguese Association of Municipalities with Historic Centers, of which the writer is patron. This year, Lagos was the county chosen, nationally, to host these commemorations.

In various historical centers in Portugal's cities, various initiatives are organized to mark this event. This year, the Municipality of Lagos will host the Solemn Commemorative Session of this anniversary.

In addition to this session, which will take place in the morning at the Lagos Cultural Center, a guided walking tour of the Historic Center of the City is planned for the afternoon, which will end with a visit to the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, during which it will take place. The Rehabilitation Project of the Church of N. Sra. do Carmo was presented, whose methodology, developed within the scope of the Office of the Historic Center of the Municipality of Lagos, won the Gulbenkian Prize for the Recovery and Enhancement of Heritage in 2003.

The day will end with a concert by the Academy of Music of Lagos.
