Anti-toll activists are back in charge in the fight against the collection of tolls on Via do Infante, this time with important figures present. The mayors of Loulé, Vitor Aleixo, AMAL, Jorge Botelho, and the Algarve Tourism Region, Desidério Silva, are present at the table of the «Forum Algarve/Andalusia: 2 years of tolls – a ruinous PPP for the Algarve », which will take place in the Conference Room of the Algarve Business Center (NERA), on March 22, at 15 pm.

The event aims to «debate the collection of tolls in Via do Infante and the consequences they are having for the Algarve's economy», according to the Commission of Users of Via do Infante (CUVI), which organizes the event in collaboration and with the support of the Câmara de Loulé and the Motoclube de Faro.

CUVI members are not convinced by the promise of toll price reduction, who say they are "just another electoral maneuver" and consider that Secretary of State Sérgio Monteiro adopted an "unqualified position of blackmail and demagoguery" when he said, in Faro, that if the EN 125 requalification work is rescued by the State and proceeds soon, there will be no money for the electrification of the Algarve Line.

In addition to the trio of presidents, who in the past walked away from CUVI initiatives, the Forum table is complete with CUVI member and Portimão Councilor João Vasconcelos, president of the Onubense Federation of Entrepreneurs of Huelva (FOE) António Ponce and the vice president of Associação Transparência e Integridade Paulo de Morais.

“The presence of many other entities from the Algarve and Andalusia is expected, including Mayors, Deputies elected by the region and the mayors of Ayamonte and Huelva,” announced CUVI.

«The time is now for debate with the aim of creating a broad platform for civil society in the Algarve that will lead to the suspension of tolls on Via do Infante. Afterwards, the fight will come out again, hopefully much stronger. The Commission of Users calls for the participation of the greatest number of people in this important space for discussion», added the citizens' movement.
