The Algarve Councils will sign the Public Employment Entity Agreements between AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, Algarve Municipal Councils and the workers' unions, with a view to reducing the employees' working hours to 35 hours a week, in a ceremony that will take place in Faro, on March 18, at 12 noon.

The 16 Algarve municipalities agreed in January to form a common front to negotiate with the unions and adopt the 35-hour weekly regime. After Chamber to Chamber negotiations, this joint agreement will be signed. The next step is the submission of the request to the Government to take advantage of the exception regime provided for in the law, which, as it is joint, should allow for a quicker deliberation on the part of the Secretary of State.

In addition to the 16 municipalities in the Algarve, the STE - Union of State Technical Staff and Public Purpose Entities, the SINTAP - Union of Public Administration and Public Purpose Entities, FESAP - Union Federation of Public Administration, the STFPSSRA – Union of Workers in Public and Social Functions in the South and Autonomous Regions, STAL – National Union of Workers in Local and Regional Administration, Public Companies, Concessionaires and Related Companies and SNBP – National Union of Professional Firefighters.
