Algar, the company responsible in the sixteen municipalities of the Algarve for the collection of recyclable packaging waste placed in Ecopoints, has been faced «often with enormous difficulties during the collection operation of this equipment».

The problem is that, as the company denounced in a statement, "frequently, Algar trucks find vehicles parked blocking access to the recycling bins, making it impossible to collect containers and collect the waste inside".

To overcome this situation, Algar says that it has sought to "sensitize the population to avoid parking their vehicles next to the recycling bins".

In addition, he adds, when the recycling bins are full, users choose to place the waste bags in their surroundings, instead of going to other selective disposal equipment and placing their waste there, which results in a “minus negative aspect suitable for the public road'.

Algar also recalls that «whenever periods of high population concentration in the Algarve region occur, especially in the summer, the greater production of recyclable waste forces the company to mobilize and hire more human resources and equipment that allow it to be collected several times. daily and, in this way, respond to the huge increase in the flow of recyclable waste that appears in the recycling bins». A work that, at times, is “unfruitful and frustrating” due to the difficulties created.

Algar has placed more than 3000 collection points (over 9000 containers) at the service of the population to fulfill the provision of services under its responsibility.

The recycling bins consist of three containers together, each intended for a type of packaging waste: the yellow one for plastic and metal packaging, the blue one for paper and cardboard and the green one for glass packaging.
