The Government promised to repair one of the floating piers at the fishing port of Quarteira, entered funds in the 2012 State Budget for this intervention, but the structure was not only not fixed, but ended up being withdrawn and disturbing the activity of fishermen in that location in the municipality. de Loulé, accused the Parliamentary Group of the PCP, which asked the tutelage for explanations about this and other problems experienced by those who use this port.

“In October 2011, the Parliamentary Group of the PCP questioned the Government about the lack of conditions in the Fishing Port of Quarteira (question no. 974/XII/1st). In its response, the Government acknowledged that a floating infrastructure (Pier 6) was damaged (and therefore its use prohibited) and that its replacement would take place in the near future, with a budget for this purpose in PIDDAC 2012”, framed the communists.

This week, a delegation from this party, accompanied by the Directorate of the Association of Shipowners and Fishermen of Quarteira, found that "Pier 6 not only had not been repaired, but was also removed from the water and placed in the car park".

«The PCP delegation was also able to verify that the fixing of some walkways is deficient (and, in one case, improvised), that there are no fire extinguishers and fire hydrants on the walkways, that the fence of the Port is very deteriorated, and that there are no there are toilet facilities for fishermen. Regarding this last aspect, it should be noted that the IPTM even prepared, about two years ago, a project for the construction of toilets and a canteen, but the work was never carried out», says the PCP, in the question it addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea.

Another problem detected was the “absence of a specific pier for the processing of fishing gear”. Fishermen have used the fuel supply pier for this purpose, but have already suggested «the construction of a new pier, for the processing of fishing gear, next to the slipway ramp, although their suggestion was not accepted» .

The PCP wants to know why the works were not carried out in 2012, as planned and promised, because the construction of sanitary facilities and a canteen for fishermen were postponed.

The question also focuses on "the reasons why the Government has not accepted the proposal of the Association of Shipowners and Fishermen of Quarteira to build a new pier for the processing of fishing gear and to carry out an intervention to properly fix the walkways, repairing the port's fence and placing fire extinguishers and fire hydrants on the bridges».
