Deputy Miguel Feitas wants to know why the Government "did not give adequate attention and in good time" to the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMRSul), in São Brás de Alportel, a health unit "highly specialized, owner certification in international terms which makes it unique, both nationally and in southern Europe'.
After a visit to the Algarvian Rehabilitation center last week, the parliamentarian defended the implementation of an autonomous management model for the unit since he considers that the Algarve Regional Health Administration, currently responsible for the management, «has no vocation».
On the contrary, the socialist demands a management model "with its own budget, which allows for the proper continuity of the health care provided and stability to the staff (doctors, nurses, health assistants) at the center".
The "transitory" measure of the Government, in choosing the ARS as manager of the specialized center, reveals the inability of the ministry "to solve the problem", considered Miguel Freitas. This health unit, remember the socialists, "provided health care to 500 inpatients and 2.500 outpatients", in 2013.
During the visit, in which he was accompanied by the president of the ARS Algarve João Moura Reis, the President of the PS/Algarve António Eusébio and the Mayor of São Brás de Alportel Vítor Guerreiro, the socialist deputy received a guarantee from the ARS of the renewal of contracts which have expired or will end this year and the adaptation of the ARS pharmacy for the supply of general and specialized medicines.
«This health unit is extraordinary, provides excellent services and it is necessary to guarantee an effective management that allows the continuation of a work of enormous competence by committed professionals and with a huge experience accumulated in the region», considered Miguel Freitas.
In addition to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center of the South, Miguel Freitas visited, on the same day, the Home and Day Center of Santa Casa de Misericórdia and the Health Center of São Brás de Alportel.
