Why is an Algarvian dedicated to mountaineering, the Everest marathon, the Ironman races? If you want to know the answer to these questions, go and watch, on Saturday 11th, at 15 pm, the lecture “Adventures of a lifetime”, by Filipe Conceição, at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library, in Loulé.

The lecture “Adventures of a lifetime” aims to make known the experience lived by this sport lover in the various expeditions and marathons in which he has participated.

Associated with this lecture is also an exhibition in the Library's lobby, where some personal items of this athlete will be placed, as well as medals and photos of the various sporting events in which he has participated.

Filipe José Gago da Conceição was born on May 11, 1966 and was born in São Brás de Alportel.

He is currently Technical Assistant at the Municipal Library of Loulé, triathlete of the Louletano Triathlon and athlete of the Associação Cultural Sambrasense, where he develops the activity of coach, organizer and guide of events and adventure expeditions. It is also linked to the Algarve Mountaineering and Climbing Center (AMEA).

His sporting career began at the age of eight at Futebol Clube de São Luís, as a goalkeeper.
At the age of 18, he started in athletics, at Farense, and at the age of 20 he joined the military service in Santa Margarida, Abrantes, in the Official Milician Command Course.

In 1990, he joined an expedition to Mont-Blanc and, in the same year, to St. Johann Alpendorf, Austria.

He also completed the Mountaineering and Ice Climbing Course in 2004, in Sierra Nevada, through the Mountaineering Center of Faro.

There are many athletic marathons he participated in, including the Everest Marathon, in Nepal, in 2011, at an altitude of 5000 meters in seven hours and twenty-six minutes. He was the first Portuguese to do it.

In 2013 he made his first Ironman in South Africa and after six months he committed the feat of making his second Ironman in the same year. Its motto is: Sport is life.
