The Library of Silves will launch the illustration workshop “O Universo de Martolita”, a recreational and educational initiative with monthly periodicity aimed at children between 6 and 11 years old and promoted by the illustrator Marta Jacinto. The first action takes place next Saturday, starting at 15:30 pm.

Sensitizing children to the practice of illustration and painting, stimulating creativity and reasoning, and exploring and reusing different materials (such as graphite, colored pencils, watercolors and acrylic) and techniques (such as collage and mixed technique) are the main objectives of these workshops.

In the first module, which will take place on Saturday, the world of Martolita, his books and techniques will be presented. The following sessions will be dedicated to the introduction of colors, materials and techniques (February 22), drawing and colors - acrylic and watercolor (March 22) and drawing and colors - mixed technique and collage (April 19) ).

The illustration workshops will culminate in a workshop where a final work will be carried out, on May 10th, which will result in an exhibition of the works developed, which will be on display at BMS from that day on.

Registration in each of the workshops costs 7,5 euros, but those who choose to participate in the five actions benefit from the special price of 30 euros. These values ​​include the materials needed by the workshops, such as paper, brushes, pencils and paints.

About Marta Jacinto:

With a degree in Architecture, Marta Jacinto was born in SB Messines, having, from an early age, a special interest in the visual arts and, in particular, in drawing as her favorite form of expression. During his secondary education, he attended the dominant arts course, a period in which he discovered and experimented with new techniques that would come to influence his artistic career.

Since then, he started to make his first exhibitions, which currently spread all over the country. In 2008, he started in children's illustration at Martolita Ilustra. Currently, and in parallel with her activity as an architect, she develops work in the field of plastic arts, with emphasis on illustration, especially in children's books. A Menina dos Pés Verdes, by Graça Magalhães; The bee Zarelha, by Raquel Patriarca and O Doutor Tiradores, by Suzana Ferreira, are some of the works he illustrated.

It should be noted that Marta Jacinto has collaborated several times in activities promoted by the Municipality of Silves, including the exhibition “Dolls, toys and things like that”, under the heading “Talents in the Community” promoted by the Municipal Library of Silves, and the “Illustration for Childhood” exhibition, which was part of the 15th anniversary program of the João de Deus Museum House, an action that also included the development of several illustration workshops aimed at students from the 1st cycle of education basic.
