French artist David Laherrere will present unique pieces of industrial design created in the Algarve in the «Palácio do Tenente» space, in Faro, from December 12th to 14th. «THE by David Laherrere» is «an innovative creative recycling project with industrial inspiration, based in the Algarve», whose results are shown in the scope of the «Bivar – Art, Design and Culture» event.

The French-born artist, living in the Algarve since 2012, had, before moving to the region, a professional path «linked to mechanics and later to antiques», according to the organizers of the exhibition.

After moving to the Algarve, more specifically to São Brás de Alportel, David Laherrere bet on « unique creations, in which he intends to reveal and highlight previously hidden or invisible pieces, telling stories about them and the people who made them and worked in an incognito way».

«Using mechanical parts from airplanes, an old church clock mechanism, a railway lamp, carpenter's presses, dismantling gearboxes or recovering Portuguese faience, David Laherrere gives new life to objects that are no longer useful. or that usually go unnoticed by most people. His work combines technique and passion and his creations convey the soul of the mechanics of yesteryear», they describe.

«Although the experience with antiques and the artistic influence of the family were essential for the birth of “THE”, it is in the tranquility of a small Algarve village (S. Brás de Alportel), in the kindness of its people and in the sharing of its uses and customs, that its inspiration finally found conditions to emerge», concluded the organization of the event.
