The Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) assured, in a working meeting, to the Mayor of São Brás de Alportel that it will maintain the professionals and the quality of the service provided at the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South.

The future of the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMFRS), located in the city of São Brasense, was discussed at a meeting, on the 18th, between the presidents of the Chamber and the Board of Directors of the ARS, Vítor Guerreiro and João Moura Reis, respectively.

For expiry of the contract previously signed for seven years with Galilei, and because the Court of Auditors did not accept its extension, the management of the Center became the responsibility of ARS Algarve, which raised "a number of concerns" on the part of the São Brasense mayor regarding the functioning of this health unit, which assumes "an extremely important role in terms of the economy local, meaning more than a hundred and a half direct jobs».

At the working meeting, proposed by the mayor, Vítor Guerreiro reinforced his concern to keep this hospital unit of reference at a global level “in full operation”, as well as the jobs of numerous families and young people from São Paulo, who perform functions in these health facilities.

In addition to concerns regarding the continuity and future of this excellent hospital unit, Vítor Guerreiro also highlighted the «constraints associated with devolved public administration, with special focus on budget restrictions, a worrying limitation in the health area and which continues to be central to its functioning. adequate services'.

The chairman of the Board of Directors of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve guaranteed that the change in the management entity will not have any impact on the provision and quality of healthcare provided there, internationally recognized, nor on the working conditions and allocation of the respective professionals.

João Moura Reis also ensured the reinforcement in the ARS Budget of the funds necessary for the operation of the Medical and Rehabilitation Center of the South for this transitional period, with a tender procedure being subsequently developed to return the unit to the private sector.
