The mayor of Loulé Vítor Aleixo received a delegation from the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP), to whom he told that «everything will be done to ensure the continuity of the Rally de Portugal in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo in 2015».

The meeting served to fix the details regarding the 2014 edition of the competition, which will take place from 3 to 6 April, in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo region, but the mayor of Loulé did not miss the opportunity to try to keep the competition in the region for more time.

Recent statements by those responsible for the ACP put the Rally de Portugal in the North of the country in 2015. However, the 2014 race was supposed to have taken place outside the region, which ended up not happening.

To keep the prestigious international race in the same place where the main Portuguese rally once again had the honor of counting for the World Rally Championship (WRC), Vitor Aleixo «is also available to contact the officials of the FIA – International Federation of Automóvel, organizer of the world rally championship, which includes the Rally de Portugal».

“Furthermore, the FIA has praised the realization of this race several times since it moved to the south, namely in terms of safety and quality of the sections”, stressed the Loulé local authority.

«The Rally de Portugal is the sporting event with the highest economic return for the country, after Euro 2004, according to a study by the University of Algarve. In addition to the impact on the local economy, namely in terms of restaurants and hotels, the Rally also brings an important level of notoriety to the region for its international projection», added the Câmara de Loulé.
