Social Security closed its treasury at its local services in Quarteira, Vila do Bispo, Castro Marim and São Bartolomeu de Messines.

To what Sul Informação he learned from a Social Security source, for the time being the closing only affects the Treasury service (payments and receipts), while the remaining functions of these four local services are maintained.

The same source considered this closure as "a nonsense", especially at a time when a greater influx of people is expected, as the new regime for the regularization of debts to the tax authorities is in force between 1 November and 20 December. to Social Security, for companies and individuals. «At a time when treasuries will certainly have more movement, since, throughout the country, the Government hopes to raise 500 million euros, will these services be closed? Why not just do it in January?».

The closing decision, which, you know the Sul Informação, was imposed by Lisbon, affects services in two county seats – Vila do Bispo and Castro Marim – and in two locations with great movement – Quarteira and Messines.

In all four cases, these are services classified as “infraconcelhios”, forcing users who do not have access to the internet to travel now to Aljezur or Lagos (in the case of Vila do Bispo), Vila Real de Santo António (Castro Marim ), Loulé or Faro (Quarteira) and Silves (Messines).

The Loulé Council has already reacted, on Friday, to this closure of the Social Security services, having expressed its "dissatisfaction" and requested "an urgent meeting of the regional director Ofélia Ramos".

The municipality stresses that "it was not officially informed of this decision". The new mayor, Vítor Aleixo believes that this closure, namely of treasury services, will constitute "a manifest loss for its users, due to the reduction of services that had been made available to the municipality's residents, in the city of Quarteira."

For the mayor, this is "another setback in the services provided by the public administration in the Algarve region that increasingly leads to a removal of citizens from the essential functions of the State."

At the meeting requested by Vítor Aleixo with the regional head of Social Security, the Loulé mayor intends to "discuss this situation that surprised the municipal executive and with which he disagrees, in an attempt to find a viable solution that fits the needs of the residents of Quarteira."
